Rahul Gandhi, Raghuram Rajan discuss impact of the pandemic on Indian economy
Sharpening the attack on the government over its handling of the economy, the Congress will release on Thursday a video of a conversation between senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and former Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan in which the two discuss the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy.
The move, the first of its kind, is seen as marking a shift in the image of Gandhi who is finally taking steps to be more involved in the functioning of the party. Gandhi resigned as Congress president in July last year but speculation over his return to the top job has mounted in the party over the last few months. This month, he came on board an 11-member committee headed by former prime minister Manmohan Singh to ideate on national issues founded in the backdrop of the pandemic.
