Govt spreading misinformation on consent clause of 2013 Land Bill Act: Congress

Congress on Monday criticised the NDA government over Land Bill issue, stating the party remain opposed to the amendments made in the bill.

Congress leader Anand Sharma in a press conference said, “We remain opposed to the amendments made by the Government in the Land Acquisition Act. Land can’t be acquired for public purpose without social impact assessment.”

He further added, “Government and its machinery is spreading misinformation about the consent clause of the 2013 Land Act passed by UPA.”

Meanwhile, the Narendra Modi government has decided to send the controversial land acquisition bill to the joint committee of Parliament in view of continued opposition to the proposed legislation.

According to reports, the decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of senior cabinet ministers today.

The controversial bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha today amid a huge uproar by the Opposition.
