Mistry raises issue in Rajya Sabha
The issue of persons displaced from Kalyannagar by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) was also raised in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Member of the Upper House from the Congress party Madhusudan Mistry raised the issue.
Mistry had contested the polls against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Vadodara where the row had erupted over Kalyannagar demolitions and the subsequent complications in the rehabilitation of the persons staying there.
Most of these persons are from the minority community and the residents of Sayajipura where they were given houses had opposed them being allotted houses at Sayajipura.
In the Rajya Sabha, Mistry said that over 300 Muslim and dalit families were living on the roads in Vadodara. He said that VMC had razed their houses at Kalyannagar stating that they would be given alternative housing. Mistry said that the houses were ready and were even allotted.
Mistry alleged that the BJP and others had objected to the resettlement. He blamed both the state government and the VMC for the situation. He even targeted Modi over the issue and said that if he really wanted to show his secular face, the houses should be given.
