Congress Launches All India Unorganised Workers’ Congress

The Congress Party has launched a new unit that would cater to the workers in the unorganized sector. Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi launched the new unit named All India Unorganised Workers’ Congress at AICC headquarters in Delhi.
Speaking about the new unit Rahul said, “it will strive to provide voice to those working in different parts of the country. Despite the proficiency of the street vendors, workers in the domestic sectors, auto-rickshaw drivers, rickshaw pullers and construction workers, they have not received their due respect,”
He said that this unit of the party would be responsible for giving voice to these people working in different parts of the country and fighting for their rights. “It is a historic day for the Congress party because today it was the first meeting of the Unorganised Workers’ Congress,” Gandhi told the media.
Rahul interacted with the members of the Unorganised Workers’ Congress and urged them to participate in the fight for the rights of the unorganised workers. He also encouraged them to participate in the struggle of the unorganised sector workers.
Arbind Singh has been appointed the Chairman of the All India Unorganised Workers’ Congress while Irfan Alam has been appointed the Vice-Chairman. Jitendra baghel and Shashi Pandit have been appointed as National Secretaries. AIUWC National Team comprises of 5 Regional Coordinators, as well as State Coordinators who will facilitate Sector-based decisions for Agricultural, Domestic Help, Street Vendors and other unorganized workers.
The Congress party had recently setup All India Professionals Congress under the leadership of diplomat turned politician Shashi Tharoor to integrate educated tax-paying professionals into political system. While Tharoor is the National Chairman of the unit, former Minister in the UPA government Milind Deora is the deputy Chairman. AIPC has four regional coordinators: Milind Deora is the Regional coordinator for West Zone; MP Gaurav Gogoi is the Regional coordinator for East Zone; Salman Anees Soz is the Regional coordinator for North while Dr Geeta Reddy is the Regional coordinator for South.
The Congress party also appointed Dr Ajoy Kumar as the President of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee and Alamgir Alam as the leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the state. Ajoy Kumar, who is the national spokesperson of the Congress party, was a member of Lok Sabha from Jamshedpur constituency. He is also a former IPS officer.
