Rahul Gandhi to spend anniversary of demonetisation with Surat traders

Surat, November 3, 2017 | UPDATED 23:38 IST

Calling the demonetisation and GST an attack on small and medium businessmen, Congress vice President Rahul Gandhi announced that he will be spending the anniversary of demonetisation on November 8 with the traders of Surat.

Rahul was addressing a massive rally in Varachcha, Surat on his last day of third phase of Navsarjan Yatra in South Gujarat. However, regardless the rally in Patidar stronghold, the Congress vice president refrained from making any comment on the demand of reservation by the Patidar caste.

Sharpening his attack on the BJP and PM Narendra Modi, Rahul yet again reiterated that the GST was nothing but Gabbar Singh Tax that was extorting Money from common people.

In his 40 minute speech Rahul focused primarily on GST and demonetisation.

“Big companies do not bring in employment. It is small businesses that bring business. Lakhs of Jobs are generated because of the textile and diamond markets of Surat. Due to demonetisation and GST they suffered badly. It is an attack on small businesses,” Rahul thundered.

“If PM Modi made an attack on black money why aren’t Swiss bank account holders behind bar? How is Vijay Mallya in London? No suit boot wala was seen in the queues,” added Rahul.

Rahul quipped that the PM makes people listen to his mann ki baat but the Congress believes in listening to people’s mann ki baat.

Rahul went on to announce that the day his party comes to power they will change the existing GST. The Congress vice president also launched a scathing attack on BJP president Amit Shah.
“Amit Shah’s son’s income has increased by 16,000 times. But the PM has not uttered a single word about it. He said na Khaunga na Khane doonga, but now he says na bolunga na bolne doonga (I won’t speak and won’t allow anyone else to speak).

Demanding an inquiry into Jay Shah’s, Rahul said “if PM Narendra Modi feels he is chowkidar (watchman) of the nation he should order an inquiry into Jay Shah, Otherwise he is not Chowkidar he is also a Bhagidar (partner).
Rahul announced that on November 8 demonetisation will complete a year and that he will spend the day with the diamond and textile manufacturers and traders of Surat to understand their problems. Congress has already announced that it will be observing the day as Black day.
