Termed the package as ‘mockery’ of victims saying it was too small : Congress

The Opposition Congress, however, termed the package as ‘mockery’ of victims saying it (package) was too small.

Gujarat Congress Chief Bharatsinh Solanki said in a statement that government gave too little.

“The floods have wiped out farmlands of lakhs of farmers, flood had completely destroyed livelihood of thousands of small traders. More than 10,000 cattle have died and thousands of homes were destroyed,” he said.

“In such situation, Rs 300 crore package is too little. It is nothing but the mockery of thousands of affected people,” said Solanki.

“It seems that the package is announced without conducting actual survey. We demand that government should bear all the expenses to level the farmland washed away in floods. Government should also waive off agriculture loans taken by farmers,” he said.

He further claimed that actual loss is ten times more than the package announced by government.

“The package of Rs 300 crore is too less. Actual figures of total damage is ten times more than the package, that is Rs 3,000 crore. Thus, Congress demands that government should announce additional package of Rs 2,000 crore for proper rehabilitation” he added.
