Shwetang’s ‘Besanu’ amid tight security, Congress president visits

Tight security arrangements were made in Bapunagar area of the city today to foil any untoward incident during the ‘Besanu’ programme (a ritual of visiting a deceased’s place) of Shwetang Patel, 32, a local youth of Patidar community who died in police custody following his detention during the recent statewide violent reservation quota stir by Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS).

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Bharat Singh Solanki, former president Arjun Modhwadia, PAAS convener Hardik Patel, whose brief detention in the night of August 25 led to the breaking out of statewide violence that claimed 10 lives including Shwetang, former Gujarat minister Gordhanbhai Jadafia and AMTS chairman Babu Jadafia were among those who visited the Matru Shakti society residence of Shwetang.
