Gujarat Cong demands elections of Panchayati Raj institutions

Gujarat Congress today requested the State ElectionCommission to expedite the process to hold elections in Panchayati Raj institutions such as the district panchayats and taluka panchayats across the state.

A Congress delegation led by party general secretary Nishit Vyas today met the state election commissioner Varesh Sinha and handed over a memorandum.

The memorandum urged Sinha to start the election process at the earliest, as the terms of several of these bodies are about to expire soon.

The elections to 253 municipalities, 208 taluka panchayats, 26 district panchayats and six municipal corporations were expected to be held in October.
