Guj Cong ready to face 2017 Assembly polls: Gurudas Kamat

Senior leader Gurudas Kamat today said his party is all set to face the 2017 polls and has completed the process of obtaining names of poll aspirants for the 182 seats for internal scrutiny.

Applications from probable candidates wanting to contest the upcoming polls are already with the party and a scrutiny process to choose the final candidates is on, Kamat told reporters at the state headquarters here.

Assembly polls in Gujarat are scheduled to be held in the later part of 2017.

“Congress party is ready to face the election, even if it will be held in January or February or any other month. All the applications from poll aspirants are with us. We will scrutinise them to select final candidates. We are ready whenever election comes,” the state party in-charge said.

He said and its subsequent effect on the common man would be taken up as one of the key issues by during the poll campaign.

Kamat claimed though Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised that things will be normal after 50 days (since was announced on November 8), nothing has changed on the ground.

“Today is the 50th day of the limit set by our PM. Despite his promise, people are still standing in queues. 80 people have so far died while standing in such queues across the country. Modi is directly responsible for it. Both BJP and Modi will have to pay a huge price in coming days for this decision,” he said.
