Former Gujarat IPS officer Kuldeep Sharma joins Congress

Retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Kuldeep Sharma, who was at loggerheads with the Gujarat government when Mr Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of the state, joined the Congress here today.

Talking to newspersons after being formally inducted into the party by Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki, he said that he had joined the party because it was the only one which worked as per the Constitution of the country.

“The Constitution of Congress and that of the country are identical,” he said.

Mr Sharma said that, after retiring from the IPS a year ago after 37 years of service, he had thought about starting an NGO to give back to society for all that it had given him.

“But I realised that only joining a mainstream political party would serve that purpose,” he said, adding that he would try to contribute to building and strengthening the Congress in Gujarat.
