Congress stages demonstrations against price rise across Gujarat

The Congress party on Friday held demonstrations outside the civil supply offices in 33 districts and eight municipal corporation areas to protest unprecedented rise in prices of essential food items across Gujarat. The local party units also submitted memoranda to their respective local civil supply officers and a separate memoranda was given to state chief secretary to demand immediate check on rising prices. The Congress leaders alleged that rising prices were the result of a “connivance between the ruling party politicians, hoarders and middlemen”. Terming policies of the BJP government at the centre as well as in the state as “anti-people”, state party general secretary Nishit Vyas said that steep rise in prices have affected the poor and lower middle-classes the most.
