Campaign against bootlegging: Congress women wing begins ‘janata raids’

ALLEGING THE state police department to have sprung into action only after Gujarat Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki’s announcement of a statewide ‘janata raid’ against illegal liquor vends and bootleggers by party’s women wing, the state women’s wing president Sonal Patel accused the police of colluding with the state government machinery in hampering the drive. “During the recent raid by nearly 200 party workers Sunday afternoon in Borij in Gandhinagar district not far off from chief minister’s residence, police were prompt to reach the spot and warned our members if they become too aggressive in their campaign, the police would take action against them. This reveals an open nexus between the police and illegal liquor business rampant in the state,” alleged Sonal Patel. The accusations were made while officially launching the ‘janata raids’ at four districts – Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot – from Congress office in Ahmedabad Sunday
